What Is The Effect Of Caffeine On The Body?

You will all be familiar with the word caffeine, it is a chemical compound of coffee. It is being used worldwide today. Significantly, caffeine has a positive or negative effect. If you also consume too much caffeine or you like caffeinated things a lot, then you must know what effect caffeine has on the body.

Brain effect

Caffeine can affect the central nervous system in many ways. You may have heard of adenosine, it acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, which promotes sleep. Neurons in the brain have specific receptors, which may be associated with adenosine. When attached to these receptors, it inhibits the tendency of neurons to become excited. This slows down the neural activity in the brain. Adenosine is normally formed during the day and finally when it is time to sleep it makes you sluggish.

Caffeine and adenosine have a similar molecular structure. So when caffeine is present in the brain, it competes with adenosine to be associated with the same receptors. However, caffeine does not slow down your neurons' tendency to be stimulated, just as adenosine does. Caffeine promotes central nervous system stimulation, making you feel alert.

Memory connection

Coffee and caffeine can also affect your memory. But all the research that has been done on this subject gives very mixed results. Some studies have found that caffeine may be helpful for those who have amnesia. While some research has found that it has no effect on memory. However, researchers have long debated the effect of caffeine on memory.

However, a small study also found that caffeine can improve the ability to remember things over a longer period of time. In this study, people were divided into two groups and both groups were shown identical images. One group used caffeine, while those in the other group were given placebo. The result was that the group that consumed the caffeine tablets had a stronger ability to recognize images for up to 24 hours, while the other group (the placebo) had more difficulty remembering them.

Fatigue effect

The main reason people drink coffee is to feel more energetic and conscious, so it is no surprise that caffeine can suppress feelings of fatigue. However, caffeine only gives the body energy for some time and as soon as its effect ends your mind can drink another cup of coffee. Consuming excessive amounts of caffeine in the evening can make it difficult to sleep at night. Drinking coffee can cause difficulty in falling asleep which directly affects your brain function.

Caffeine speeds up brain functions

Studies have shown that caffeine can boost brain function in a shorter period of time. This prevents adenosine from binding to its receptors. But caffeine stimulates the central nervous system by promoting other neurotransmitters, including noradrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin.

Caffeine can improve various aspects of brain functions, such as:

  • Improving Mood
  • learn
  • Normal mental work

Should You Take Caffeine?

If caffeine is consumed after making a slight change, it can prove to be very good for your brain. In a short time it can improve your mood, learning and reaction time. Additionally, it can protect against brain diseases such as Alzheimer's  (reduced intellectual capacity) and Parkinson's disease (a disease of the central nervous system in which the patient's body parts vibrate).

All the body's tissues and organs absorb 99 percent of the caffeine. The effect of caffeine depends on the amount of it being used.
